Hampshire police officers had been recorded on a hidden bug earning racist, sexist and homophobic remarks and wishing demise on foreigners, a disciplinary listening to has heard.
The officers, component of a specialist police unit that was explained as “plain nasty”, were being overheard insulting communities they have been sworn to provide, the tribunal in Winchester read.

Six present and previous officers from Hampshire police’s really serious and organised crime device (Socu) office in Basingstoke are accused of breaching skilled standards and encounter a 3-week tribunal.
The officers are DS Oliver Lage, former Pc Craig Bannerman, trainee detective constable Andrew Ferguson, and Computer system James Oldfield. Opening the scenario from them, Jason Beer QC claimed: “It was a unit that was racist – a black officer is explained as a ‘pavement special’, ie a mixed-breed puppy. Folks are explained as ‘pikeys’ a black officer is accused of behaving like a colonial overseer managing a plantation of white persons. When speaking to a black officer, a colleague places on a bogus Caribbean accent – in point he was from Ghana. A element like that does not make any difference, he was a black guy soon after all.

“That isolation and a deficiency of management by Mr Ireson and DS Willcox seems to have led to a poisonous, abhorrent culture acquiring in the unit amongst some officers,” he explained. “[This] is inconsistent with the values and criteria of the police provider in the 21st century and inconsistent with continued support in the police assistance.”
Beer explained the investigation into the device also examined texts and e-mail, which uncovered related content.
